About Us
The South African Certified Lactation Course is a Post- Graduate Lactation- specific Course developed for Registered Nurses, Midwives and Other Registered Related Health Practitioners in order to provide a high National Standard Qualification for Lactation Consultants in South Africa.
The course seeks to enhance the health of the community by promoting breast feeding and encouraging the observation of published standards and ethical codes by the International Lactation Consultants Association and the International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants , while catering for lifestyles, cultures and the National Health Structures in place in South Africa.
The course has been developed by Sr. Hettie Grove and Sr. Lynda Lilienfeld, who are both Registered Nurses, Midwives , International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and International Certified Childbirth Educators. Sr Hettie Grove also has a degree in Nursing Education and Administration.
Both Sr. Grove and Sr. Lilienfeld have been in Private Practice running Registered well baby clinics for the past 12 years offering Immunisations, Childbirth Education Classes and assisting mothers with Lactation and feeding.

Requirements for Registration
- Nursing or Allied Health Professional Diploma or Degree
- Access to working with breast-feeding mothers while doing the course

- A self directed learning programme

- A Paper for Publication
- Practical requirements - counselling hours
- A 3-hour written examination
- A 70% pass mark is required in order to become a South African Certified Lactation Consultant (SACLC)
